ScalienDB follows a dual open source - commercial licensing model. The ScalienDB database server are client libraries are distributed under the GNU Affero GPL (AGPL) open source license. Additional enterprise modules such as backup and restore tools, support contracts are available under a commercial license.

This allows casual and small business users to use ScalienDB at no charge and sign up for additional licenses once the business demands commercial support or enterprise level features. Enterprise users are free to evaluate and use ScalienDB under the AGPL license for proof of concept systems.
